Barry Gates and Anthony Dunn continued
their battle for the SR3 championship at the weekend with fellow RPM team mates
Phil Bailey and Bradley Ellis. First blood went to the Gates and Dunn in who
took pole in qualifying at the super fast Thruxton circuit. Race 1 saw an
unfortunate first corner collision between Gates and two SR8's remove him from
the result.
The pairing of Ellis and Bailey took another podium finish
moving themselves back into the lead of the championship. Race 2 saw Ellis make
a flying start stretching out some 20 second lead before the driver change
over. A safety car period just after the mid way point in the race saw the
number 1 cars lead taken back to nothing.
At the restart a hard charging
Anthony Dunn in the number 99 car quickly moved the car up to 2nd place and as
the organisers showed the last lap board to Dunn he had only 1 second to make
up on the leader. As he crossed the line for what should have been the end of
the race he was ahead, however an error on the timers behalf had ment the race
was not in fact over and as Dunn slowed on what he believed to be the slow down
lap he lost the win he and Gates had worked so hard for. The paring are now 12
points behind Ellis and Bailey in what is shaping up to be a great end to the
season.
