| Viper takes FIA
manufacturer podium in Romania |
|
Round 2 of the FIA GT3 championship was
held on the streets of Bucharest, Romania around the countries parliament
building. The tight twisting wall to wall concrete track, designed by F1 track
designer Tilke was going to prove a very tricky suituation for all
concerned.
The vipers of RPM though were not being slowed by the
circuit as times started to tumbles the vipers were always in the top 10 making
themselves known as RPM were only in their second FIA event. The pairing of Rob
Wilson and Micheal Forsten navigated their no. 8 Viper into the top 5 and
didn't show signs of slowing.
Qualifying though proved to be a problem
in making space and Rob Wilson got caught up in a Lamborgini shunt that he
could not avoid ending the car for the weekend. Though to show how well the
vipers were coping the second car of Mortimer and Duquenie was up to 8th with
Alex behind the wheel.
Race one though was to give RPM a first in
their FIA debut season, as the number 8 car of Mortimer and Duquiene along with
some clever pit stop strategies stayed out on slicks on a ever increasing wet
track 10 mintues from the end to take a 5th overall and a manufacture podium.
With the second race having the rain fall earlier, the later pitstop didnt
prove to pay off and the pairing fell into 14th place and out of the
points.
Although the second race didnt provide any points the weekend
proved that the Viper was getting quicker and the RPM drivers were getting the
car into the sharp end of the grid!
